APPEAL FOR THE SAILOR

Sir, —I, too, would like to add my voice to the appeal for more pay for our sailor husbands. My husband is an able seaman, and we have two children. eight and nine years of age. We are living in a furnished flat, the rent of which is more than half my allotment, but after nearly six months' search for a place where they would take children we were lucky to get it. Out of the balance I have to buy groceries, meat, vegetables, fruit and milk, so essential to the health of growing children. By now I have about 2s 7d if nothing unexpected turns up and with that I have to tackle the impossible task of clothing myself and two children. I ask, is it giving the married ratings a fair go when the usual methods of appealing for higher wages, such as stop-work meetings, go slow, deputations, etc., are denied them? Hi:no's Wife.
