The loan will be officially launched oil May 24, Empire Day. In the coming financial year, the Government proposes to spend at least £70.000,000 for war purposes in Australia itself, 'not allowing for any auxiliaries or any acceleration of tlio present programme or any new commitments. Of this amount, £50,000,000 is being raised by way of additional loans. Financial opinion ill Melbourne is that the now loan will not be less than £20,000.000, and that tho rate will not exceed £3 5s per cent. CHRISTCHURCH TURNOVER Turnover on the Christchurch Stoek Exdhange last week showed a marked decline. • being only £6922. compared with £26.451« for the previous week. All sections of tho market were depressed, and no sales were recorded ut insurance, pastoral, shipping, coal or gas- shares. PUBLIC TRUST BUSINESS Estates of a value of £-160,979 were accepted for administration by tho Public Trustee during April. Grants of administration made by the Court in favour of the Public Trustee numbered 164 for the month. A total of 545 new wills appointing the Public Trustee executor were prepared on behalf of testators and lodged for safe custody and 363 existing wills were revised to provide for changes desired by testators. MINIMUM GRAIN PRICES CHICAGO. May 19 The Board of Trade has set a minimum price on all grain dealings at Saturday's closing prices for wheat, corn, oats, ryo and soya beans.
