NEW GOLF COURSE

SECOND EOTORIJA CLUB MOUNT VIEW LINKS OPENED MANY VISITORS PRESENT [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Monday In the presence of over 200 players from Rotorua, Te Puke, Hamilton, Auckland and other centres, the newlyconstituted Mount View Golf Club opened its new course about two miles from Rotorua on Saturday. The first hall was driven by Mr. H. P. Ford, chairman of the Rotorua County Council. The president, Mr. E. Gillon, stated that many golfers'had considered that Rotorua could support two fulllength golf courses, and efforts had therefore been made to obtain a suitable area of land and develop it. This had been done and tho links were a tribute to the energy of lease-holders. Congratulations wero offered to tho now club by Mr. T. Jackson, Mayor of Rotorua, nnd tho greetings ,and best wishes of the Rotorua Golf Club were extended by Mr. C. H. Worthington, president. From his experience of 50 years of the game Mr. Worthington gave some advice, and expressed the hope that there would be friendly rivalry between the two clubs. A tribute to tho condition of the course was paid by Mr. C. H. Redhead, architect for the course. Ho said the links promised to be very fine in a few years and, considering the short time since the property was taken over, they were already in remarkably good condition. Mixed aggregate foursomes were played during the afternoon and were won by J. darken and Miss Mitchell, with 170 net.

AUCKLAND CLUB SUCCESSFUL PAST YEAR MEMBERS ON ACTIVE SERVICE The 46th annual general meeting of the Auckland Goft Club was held in the Chamber of Commerce rooms, Swanson Street, Auckland, last evening. A small attendance of members was presided over by Mr. A. I. Johns. Tho club captain, Mr. Warwick Wilson, in moving tho adoption of tho report and balance-sheet, referred to the successful year which had just closed. Twenty-four members were already on active service and these were made honorary members of tho club. A number of others were awaiting instructions and it was resolved to grant these a rebate of subscription from the date on which they go into camp. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr. H. P. Richmond; vicepresidents, Messrs. H. C. McCoy, C. V. Mark, A. E. M. I?hind; captain, Mr. Warwick Wilson; committee, Dr. W. N. Abbott, Dr. A. J. Friedlander, Messrs. E. L. Bartleet, C. 11. Knight, B. H. Mcnzies, L. W. Swan. Mr. N. A. Duthie was re-elected auditor. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing committee, and to the secretarial and other stafTs, for their excellent work during the year. Tho captain moved a resolution of appreciation to the press for the manner in which reports and comments on the activities of the club had been dealt with. Second division: T. Kelly and Mrs. Butler beat Arthur and Mrs. Arthur at tho 21st; C. S. Woods and Miss Webster beat R. Bush and Mrs. Cormack, 3 and 2. Final: Kelly nnd Mrs. Butler beat Woods and Miss Webster, 1 up. A Canadian foursome medal _ match was won by Haggie and Mrs. Haggie. Results of the club's week-end play by men were:—T. Cobbold and A. There was a large attendance of players, including visitors from Hamilton, Otorohanga. Lochiel and district clubs. Visitors and members were welcomed by the club president, Mr. W. G. Parker, who declared the season officially opened and drove the first ball. Mixed Canadian foursomes over 12 holes were played, the best score being recorded by Sutton and Mrs. Fletcher and Law and Mrs. Miller, who each returned a score of 'l7. Cambridge.—A large number of members and visitors were present at the opening of the Cambridge Golf Club's season on Saturday afternoon. Mr. A. 11.
