WORLD'S RECORDS BROKEN FINNISH RELIEF MEETING (Received April 1, 0 p.m.) NEW YORK, March 31 A crowd of 15,000 attended the Finnish Relief Fund' amateur athletic meeting at Madison Square Garden. It was opened by Paavo tNurmi, former world distance champion and holder of many records, with an exhibition run. ■ Gregory Rice, of Indiana, brilliantly defeated Tiiisto Maki, of Finland, over three miles in 13m 52 3-10s, this beating the world's indoor record by 3 3-ss. The outdoor record of 13m 12 l-5s was established by Maki on June 1(5 last year at Helsinki. Acting as pacemaker, Maki bettered tho world's records at two and a-half miles in 11m 40s, and tho two and three-quarters miles in 1.2 m 50 0-10s respectively., He was unable to respond when Rice spurted ii. the last lap and he finished thirty yards behind. Alan Tolmich, of Detroit, won the 50yds low hurdles in fis. and 70yds high hurdles in S 2-ss. Al Blozis, of Washington, putt tho sixteen-pound shot 55ft lin, the 12-pound shot. 05ft, which also betters the outdoor record, nnd tho eight-pound shot 78ft V B \\\.
