[by telegraph—own correspondent] WH AIyAT AN 33, Sunday Heaped lip debris at the foot of a quarry perhaps saved the life of Mr. Bradon Roper, a Public: Works Department employee, when he fell Soft, in a direct line and rolled a further 200 ft. The accident occurred on the road metal quarry on the WhakataneTaneatua road. Mr. Roper was directing work at the time and hanging over the edge of the quarry on the safety rope. The rope broke and he plunged down, but to bis workmates' amazement he stood up immediately his fall was stopped. Abrasions and a broken toe were his only injuries.
