FIRE AT SEA
SHIP'S DISTRESS SIGNAL 'FLAMES UNDER CONTROL (Received March 20, 5.5 p.m.) ') SAN FRANCISCO, March 28 The United States freighter Autinous, of 6034 tons, bound to Osaka, sent out a distress signal when 1500 miles off Japan. Her forward hold had been flooded, following the outbreak of a fire, which is now under control. 'The ship is down by the head and encountering heavy seas. The American steamer Admiral Halstead, of 3289 tons, has gone to the rescue.
