Peter Smith also won a race while being trained at Claudelands, and Morrison scored a success with lilliotvale when his iiorsos were being worked at Mangero. The activities of the Kenncrleys' stable since making Auckland their headquarters have created .i good deal of interest at the local track. 10. X. Kenncrley came to Kpsom last April with Three Bells, who won the Henderson Handicap, Amywyn, who rail second to Marcus in the April Handicap, Shrewdy, and Repose, the team being augmented early (his season, when J. J. Kenncrley came north. Several additions in the interval have increased the string to large dimensions.

, A Great Record Kenncrley, senior, has an excellent record as a trainer and reinsinan since he came from Australia about - JO years ago, and he lias been associated with more pacers of outstanding ability than any other trainer, with perhaps the exception of J. Bryco, who had a phenomenal run of successes for a considerable number of years. Kenncrley has won practically all tlio leading races in the Dominion, the only one to elude him being the Auckland Trotting Cup, in which he was second to tiold Jacket with Peter Bingen in 1 !»•_>». ~ With Peter Bingen he won the Xew Zealand Cup two years in succession, and also drove him to victory in the National Cup, Wellington (iold Cup, Dunedin Cup. The form of Three Bells has been a high order, and, apart from his three wins this term, he was responsible for a splendid effort for second to Red Flush in the Auckland Cup Trial at Claudelands. He is- one of the best pacers by Truman Direct racing in the Dominion. After his fine success in trie Otahuhu Handicap in February, .Three Bolls developed soreness and was eased. His earnings so far this season total .C 740. Lady Vaselyne, who for a first, second and third collected is an honest mare who has improved a good deal in staying power this season. She ran a solid race at Awaputii for second to Molly Direct in the Luoni Memorial Handicap and occupied a similar place behind her stable mate Amywyn in the Farewell Handicap. Difficult Position

Amvwyn has displayed fine form Jit nnddlc distances, but through tho penalties allotted sprint winners at two miles and the tact that she gave away two seconds to run at Awapuni she has reached a diflicult mark at the longer distance, without proving horselt capable of going two miles. Young 1 arry, who' was placed at Cambridge, was successful at Waaganui. . Shrewdy, a dry track horse, has also made good progress and the best may not ha\e been seen of (he son of \Vrack and Jho Shrew. His half-sister, by Jack Potts, Repose wn:i at Hamilton in a manner that suggested further success, but her subsequent form was not so impressive. Bronze King, after racing several neasons and displaying fairly consistent form, left the novice ranks at the February .meeting, where Bournemouth and Star Guide w ero placed. Tho last-named is a promising halfbrother to First Flight and King's Guide. Gay Moko, who has earned £155. has been a very consistent performer for Mahonoy. and slie showed herself a trotter of no menu order in winning the Rowe Memorial Handicap, a race her near relative Pirates Last won tho previous year. Vanora. who two seasons ago, quickly won his way to the advanced class by a series of fine winning performances, did not return to his best until the February meeting, when he met a good field in tho Papakura Handicap. Now that lie has regained form, Vanora may add to liis winnings.

Unlucky Equipoise The unlucky horse of tho season is the brilliant Equipoise, who, with a first, second and third, won £2lO. Ho developed leg trouble early in the season, which severely hampered his training, but, in spite ot this, he ran second to Josedale Graltan in the President's Handicap at Claudolaiids. At tno Auckland summer meeting Equipoise, after going 3.15 2-5 for third to Shrewdy ami Adversity in the Summer Handicap, recorded an outstanding performance to win tho Bledisloe Handicap in 1.22 time that was only a fraction outside that of Bayard, who won the President's Handicap tho same day With no abatement of (lie ailment, Equipoise was withdrawn from his engagement in February and he has been blistered and turned out for a spell. c , August made good progress with Sweet Aloes whose win and minor placing netted 11 oo". The. grey daughter of Jewel Pointer— Miss Joan Direct, who was a handful for some time, lias settled down and gives promise of further development. Stalky h sue-re-is wis obtained in the Royal Oak Handicap at the Aujrust lirocting, when lie unexpcctedlv defeated the hot favourite, (.ay Moko, being assisted to victory by a heavy tr 'peier Smith, one of the finest horses in the province, collected ,C2OO for his very fino win in the Cambridge Summer Handicap, in which he established a track record of I •'<; :{-5. He failed in his races at Hawera, but should have a chance to make amends at Epsom next month. Both Cavalryman and Bingen s Best lost their novice status at the Cambridge meeting. The latter, who returned a win dividend approaching a century, gave J. Garnett Ins first success as a rcinsman.
