TRANSFER OF HALLS
Sir, —In your issue of March 18, under the above title, reference was made to the Dairy Flat and Silverdale Halls. Kindly permit me to state the true position with regard to the Silverdale Hall. The people of the Silverdale district, having raised by public subscription and social functions sufficient funds for the purpose, it was decided at a recent meeting of subscribers to purchase the hall property, and vest the title in the Waitemata County Council in trust for the people in perpetuity. This was done, not because of the "burden of operating costs, etc.," as stated, but in order to secure and preserve the property for the people of the district for all time. The administrative control is in the hands of a locally-elected committee. The Dairy Flat Hall is mentioned as being the larger. This is not so, the Silverdale Hall being the larger of the two. Alb but E. Sainsbuiiy.
