Mr. H. A. Beauchamp left for Wellington by yesterday afternoon's express. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates was a passenger on the limited express from Wellington yesterday. Major Lindsay Gardiner, M.C., in command of the Class 11. Reserves, Palmerston North Company, has received promotion to the rank, of lieutenant-colonel. Mr. F. W. G: McLcod, conductor of the Palmerston North City Silver Band, is to be the adjudicator at the gouth. Auckland band contest to bo held at 'le Aroha next Easter. Mr. A. J. C. Nicholson, New Plymouth, who went to Cambridge as holder of an 1851 scholarship, has entered Emanuel College. He is one of seven New Zealanders who are students at the college.
