WOOL APPRAISAL

AUCKLAND OFFERING 20,000 BALES HANDLED COMPLETION OF THE WORK After valuing about 20,000 hales in three days, the staff of appraisers who have been engaged on the Auckland wool clip completed their work yesterday. The first Auckland appraisement was lipid late last month, hut an extra operation was added this week to the original programme in order to take advantage of shipping space which is soon to be available. The scheme of Government purchase is based on an average price to growers of per lb. However, there are substantial variations according to quality, and a detailed list showing the range of prices for the various types of wool will shortly be issued by the Auckland Wool brokers' Association. The Government appraisers left for Wellington by the limited express last night. Before their departure, a representative of the staff said the wool that had been handled was fairly similar to the clip normally available at Auckland at this time of the year, except that it was slightly finer in quality. Growers had also apparently heeded advice given at the time of the first appraisement, as more' skirted clips had been forwarded. ... No precise date has yet been fixed for the third appraisement to be held in Auckland. Early this month it was tentatively announced for January 22, but it is possible that the fixture may be delayed until a little later in January.
