THE FRENCH INDUSTRY
The French film industry, which is unhampered either by a hesitant trade bureaucracy or timid producers, is "carrying on." Under the sponsorship of the French Government, directors like Claire and Duvivier are getting together to maintain production on a prewar scale. The nation's finest directorial production and acting resources are virtually being pooled to ensure that the industry shall not nerish in the conflict as it and its British counterpart did in the years between 1914 and 1918. Artistes such as Charles Boyer, Jean Gabin and Fernandel, who have been called to the colours, are being given leave from military service to take their part in the scheme. V
