CHILD MISSING
JOURNEY FROM WAIHI last seen at onehunga INQUIRIES BY POLICE News of her missing daughter, Ir(;ne Muriel Spalding,' aged 11, is anxiously, sought bv her mother, Mrs. A. Spaiding° of Kimberley Road, Waihi, who has' not seen the child since she left home at about 10 o'clock, last Friday, •morning. The girl was last seen at;;.Onehunga shortly after 8.30 a.m. the following day, when she. abruptly left the house of a friend of her mother, after saying she came to Auckland for an operation on her eye. The police have circulated the following description: —Height, 4ft. lOin., fair hair, blue eyes. She was wearing a lemon-coloured jumper, a gynk nasium dress, black shoes and stockings. Anyone who has seen her is - asked to communicate «"ith the police. Mrs. Spalding said yesterday that in some way her daughter had managed to get sufficient money to pay her rail fare to Auckland 'from Waihi. On Friday morning the child returned from school and said she wanted her coat, and a rug to take part in St. John Ambulance at school. When she did not return from school. Mrs. Spalding made inquiries, and learned she had travelled on the north-bound train. Shortly after eight o'clock the next morning the child walked into Mrs. 51. Gririiai's house, George Street, Onehunga, and said she was staying with friends at Ponsonby. Mrs. Grima. telephoned at once to Waihi to ask if the girl coujd stay with her until Christmas. only to learn that the Waihi police were looking for her. Mrs. Grima questioned her about, that, but she protested against the need for police ; inquiries, and a few minutes later went outside to play. She has ,?k"not been seen since.
