TRANSPORT INDUSTRY

SOCIALISATION THREAT DENIAL BY MR. SEMPLE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Friday In a statement to-day the Minister of Transport, the Hon. It. Seinple, emphatically denies an assertion by the Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. A. Hamilton, that the Government's policy aims at wiping out private transport interests. He quoted resolutions passed by transport operators expressing appreciation of what the Government had done to reorganise the industry and offering full co-operation. Mr. Seinple said the amazing thing was that Mr. Hamilton made his statement at Pahiatua, after having been assured by operators themselves that there was no such thing as confiscation, commandeer or dictatorship, as suggested by Mr. Hamilton. Mr. Semple recalled saying recently that as long as private enterprise gave satisfactory and efficient transport service the Government would be more than happy to leave the job to private enterprise.
