YOUTHS' ESCAPADE

CONVERSION OF A CAR FOOD STOLEN FROM STORE [by telegraph—own correspondent] OPOTIKI, Friday A telephone call to the Opotiki police concerning the suspicious movements of three young men on the Waioeka Road this morning resulted in their arrest shortly afterward. The youths were seen by Mr. G. Hamilton, Okiore, Waioeka Gorge. They told him that their car had run out of benzine and that they were walking to Gisborne. Constable Rathie, of Opotiki, was informed and ho caught up with the youths about six miles from where they had abandoned the car.

]n the Opotiki Police Court this afternoon Raymond George Shepherd was charged with the conversion of a car at Onohunga and with breaking and entering the premises of the Farmers' Trading Company, Limited, at Opotiki, and stealing chocolates and fruit. Accused pleaded guilty to both charges and was committed to the Supreme Court at Auckland for sentence.

In the Children's Court two youths were charged with the conversion of a car and theft and on the application of the police were remanded to the Children's Court at Auckland.
