MANUREWA AFFAIRS
DISTRICT WATER SUPPLY TELEPHONE FACILITIES A reduction in tho Manurewa water supply pressure as the re.sult of adjustments being made to the pipe-line to service the military camp at Papakura was reported at the Manurewa Borough Council meeting on Thursday night. The consulting engineer, Mr. R. P. Worley, reported that the position would be relieved when the camp was supplied with a direct main from the Papakura dam at Hunua. It was understood that the heightening of the dam wall was proposed' as a means of ensuring a large storage. Advice was received from the director of State housing construction that in the absence of any indications of a housing shortage in Manurewa and the pressing needs of other districts it was not proposed to erect State houses in Manurewa at present. Reporting 011 an inspection of sites for the proposed pound to serve the combined Papakura, Mannkau County and Manurewa district, the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Ferguson, stated that there was a likelihood of one being selected in the Takanini district. Certain proposals were under consideration. The council agreed.that a site in that district would be most suitable for local needs. The necessity for public telephone facilities after * business hours was emphasised, and it was decided to request the Post and Telegraph Department to construct a public call-box in the main street adjoining the' post office.
