DOMINION ROAD SCHOOL SPECTACULAR CEREMONY FUNDS FOR DENTAL CLINIC The grand finale to the Dominion Road School queen carnival, a spectacular crowning ceremony and concert, took place last night at the Capitol Theatre, Dominion lload. The carnival, which was organised by a special organisation .set up by the school and the social committee, headed by Mr. P. Bradburn, was successful beyond all expectations, the sum of £585 being raised toward the building of a dental clinic and learners' swimming pool. Four candidate's competed in the carnival, Patricia Grigg being crowned queen. The others were Gwen Denison, Madeleine Mortimer and Conrie Monthey. The stage presented a brilliant scene, with the queen enthroned in the centre, surrounded by her attendants, and the three princesses and their attendants grouped in the wings. A square red canopy was placed over the gilt throne, with Regina" in large letters carried out in blue and gold and surrounded by stars. Lions rampant decorated the facade, and the shields of the four princesses were placed along the front of the stage. The youthful queen wore a charming frock of cream satin, and a trained cape of crimson velvet, bordered with ermine. Her attendants, who were also frocked in cream, with pink and red head bands, were: —Noeline Rogers, Alison Beech, Joyce Stevens, Margaret Farrant, Ann Sigee, Alison Cummings, Barbara Walker, Betty Bradburn and Shirley Burnand. Mr. W. Grove, as the archbishop, performed the crowning ceremony. Other striking figures wero: — Six little flower-girls, Lexie Brebner, Dorothy Mackie, Doone Woolhouse, Linley Hislop, Joycelyn Home and Joyce Marks; two jesters, Beverly Jordan' and Phyllis Dore; tho sceptre bearer, Gralham Anderson; tho orb bearer, Brian Merrick; the crown hearer, Francis Atkinson; two heralds, Robort Stenberg and William Reardon; the sword bearer, David Adams; the scroll bearer, Selwyn Tattersall; tho lord high chancellor, Colin do Lucca; and tho standard bearer, Desmond Spooner. The attendants of the red princess, ■who wero dressed in apricot tonings, were Mary Huston and Alison Pye, and a little page boy in black and white, Graham Cameron; lilac frocks wero worn by the blue princess and her attendants, Leonie Young and Doreen Newling; and the green princess and her attendants, Dawn Groves and Mary Harrison, wore frocks of eau do nil. The ceremony was followed with items by a school choir of 80 members, conducted by Mr. S. H. Richmond, the percussion band of 40 members, and dancing by Miss Marmont's pupils. The evening concluded Avith tho screening of a. comedy. The chairman of the school committee, Mr. J. Stenberg, paid tribute to the fine work done by the organisers of the carnival, and congratulated them on the successful result. Ho announced that the original intention had been to collect £2OO.
