DESERTER CHARGED
OFFENCE A YEAR OLD P ADMITTED TO PROBATION , r— — "I want to get back to England," said Jamos Mark Coleman, cabin boy, aged 19, when lie was charged in tlie Police Court yesterday with deserting from a British ship on August 23, 1938. Accused had been working in tho country under an assumed name, -said Sub-Inspector Pender, until last Tuesday, when he came to Auckland and gave himself up to the police. Nothing was known against him during his period in New Zealand. The shipping company was unable to find him a position at present. "You will have to make your own arrangements about getting Home," said Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., in admitting accused to probation for a year. The probation officer, he ridded, would advise him on means of g/lting back. - t'tt.-..
