TENNIS VISITORS
WINNERS OF DAVIS CUP APPEARANCE IN AUCKLAND Followers of tho game of tennis in tho Auckland provinco will be treated to an exhibition at the Stanley Street courts on Monday afternoon next of a standard which could not be bettered among amateur players in any part of the world. The players will be the four Australians, J. Bromwich, A. K. Quist, J. Crawford and H. Hopman. This quartette represented Australia in the recent Davis Cup competition, and, as is well known, Bromwich and Quist were responsible for a remarkable' recovery which won the trophy for Australia from the holder, the United States. After losing the first two singles matches, the Australian pair won the doubles and on the final day each man won his singles. In view of such a brilliant performance tho public will be very eager to see these world's champions in acMori.
New Zen landers have a particular interest in tho Davis Cup, as it was at one time held in conjunction with Australia by tho late Anthony Wilding, of Canterbury, who was killed in tho last war, and Norman Brookes, now a well-known tennis administrator in Melbourne. The latter accompanied the Australian team on this successful tour.
Apart from winning the Davis Cup, all four Australian players competed very successfully in tournaments in various parts of America, one, of the most notable victories being gained by Harry Hopman, who won tho American combined doubles title in conjunction with Miss Helen Jacobs. The Davis Cup will he on view at tho Stanley Street courts on Monday afternoon under an armed guard. This is one of tho conditions attaching to its being displayed in a public place.
