AWARD OF BLAZERS

DOMINION ASSOCIATION AUCKLANDERS RECOMMENDED Five Auoklandors were recommended to the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, by delegates attending the annual conference of centres in Wellington, as worthy of being awarded the New Zealand, swimming blazer, in recognition of their long and outstanding service to the sport. They were Dr. T. H, Pettit, president of the Auckland Centre, and Messrs. J. R. Miller, honorary secretary, W. Elwarth and lE. Johnston, all of whom were nominated bv the centre, and Mr. W. O. Stockier, who was nominated by the New Zealand Council. The conference also approved the award of a blazer to Mr. L. lE. Grocott, of Hamilton, an official of the South Auckland Centre, ]Mr. S. H. Da wick, honorary secretary to the Manawatu Centre,' Miss D. Brown, honorary secretary to the Canterbury Centre, Miss E. Stewart, of the Nelson Centre, Mr. H. T. Schoii, of Christchurch, and Mr. G. Walters, of Greymoutli. It was agreed that Thames should be included in tho Auckland Centre's territory, instead of in South Auckland, and that Taupo should bo removed from the jurisdiction of the Taranaki Centre to that of the Bay of Plenty Centre. Permission was sought by the Otago Centre to change tbo dates of the New Zealand intermediate and junior championship meeting, which 3t will conduct in Dunedin, to January 17, IS and 20. The alteration was approved. Authority was granted the Wellington and Otago Centres to require that cream trousers and whito shirts should lio worn by male officials at the New Zealand senior and the New Zealand junior and intermediate championship meetings, and that cream frocks should bo worn by female officials. It was considered that this uniform should bo compulsory for all championship meetings. A recommendation that centres should ■ set up a panel of starters in their own centres was adopted, the object being to improve and standardise starting methods. A further resolution passed was that the Now Zealand Council should be recommended to set up a Water Polo Referees' Association, and that Mr. D. Wood field, of Wellington, should be invited to co-operato in the formation of the association and the setting of an examination. A proposal that competitors in tlio annual open-water race for the Kcllerman Cup should wear numbered caps was approved. At the suggestion of the Auckland Centre's delegates, it was decided, in view of tho duties of educational officers, to rocomniend to tho council the deletion of tho laws authorising the institution of tho bureau of instruction and coaching. Tho opinion was expressed of the need for an amendment to tho rule requiring centres each to be represented at tho annual conference by two delegates resident within tho district of their centre. Consequently, it was agreed to recommend to tho council that each centre should bo represented by ono delegate,who should bo resident within its district, and that lie alone should exercise tho voto to which tho centre was entitled; that, furthermore, each centre should bo permitted to havo a second delegate not necessarily resident within its district, but only if such a delegato were associated with a resident delegate.

SURF ASSOCIATION CHAMPIONSHIPS ALLOCATED The annual meeting of the New Zealand Surf Life-Saving Association decided to hold the 10-11 championships in Otago, the actual beach to be fixed later. Alt future Australian teams visiting New Zealand arc to be invited to bring a surfboat and crew and a rescue and resuscitation team. The resuscitation championship is to ho judged on the heats of the New Zealand four-man championship. It is recommended that the proposed visit of an Australian team for the Centennial championships should be postponed. The council is to negotiate with the advisory council of the Centennial Sports Celebrations Committee concerning a grant for a possible loss at fhe championships, and to help defray the travelling expenses of competing teams.
