GROWERS WORRIED

DISPOSAL OF FRUIT CROPS POSSIBLE WAR EFFECTS The likelihood of a serious .decline in fruit exports because of the war's effect on shipping services was discussed last night by apple and pear, growers of the Huapai, Kumeuf Taupaki. and Waiinauku districts at a meeting in Kumeu. It was stated that the Government had been asked by fruitgrowers to come to a decision about the disposal of the large crops that were showing; so far s however, no decision had been made. Growers urged that if. any form of ■control, or a scheme of disposal, was introduced the fruit should still be sold through the recognised wholesale channels, the Auckland auctioneers. The'following resolution was carried: —"That this meeting of fruitgrowers of the Huapai, Kumeu, Taupaki and Waimauku districts desire that ill any scheme proposed for the sale of apples and pears for the next season, 1940, full advantage be taken of the services and facilities of; the Auckland auctioneers, whose organisation has been built up over a long period of years and who have acted as our agents in that period with, our full confidence and satisfaction."
