£1932 DAMAGES VERDICT

ACCIDENT INJURIES MAN ' PERMANENTLY CRIPPLED [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON; Tuesday Liability was admitted in _ the Supreme Court to-day when ictor Emanuel Clark, meter-reader, employed bv the electricity department of the Wellington City. Corporation, claimed £ISOO general damages and £602 special damages from Arthur John Bigg, managing director, of Wellington. A jurv of 12 was empanelled before Mr. Justice Blair to assess damages. Clark was awarded the full amount of general damages and £432 of the special damages. _ The claim arose from an accident on October 18. 1938. when plaintiff's motor-cycle collided with defendant's car. Plaintiff received a double fracture of the left thigh, an injured knee joint, and shock, and afterward internal trouble developed. He would be unable to return to work until July of next year, it' was stated/ but he would then be permanently crippled. He would be. unable to bend his knee beyond a right-angle and would have the equivalent of only half the use of the left' leg.
