SOME SMART SPRINTS GOOD 'THREE BY KENTUCKY ANION DEFEATS ARVAKUR A good three furlongs by Kentucky and Payette, five furlongs by Orelio 1 and Glad ynev, and a smart half-mile by Bronuen were features of the training operations at Takanini yesterday, when the grass track next to the rails provided good going. Anion (McTavlsh) was always going better than Arvakur (Smith) over fivo furlongs in 1.3. Arvakur was a little closer at tho finish than over the early stages. Brazilian, Milnnion and Pleuron, who raced at Paeroa, were restricted to pace-work on the plough. The Dozer Works Well Wynardo (Logan) and The Dozer (Cleaver) went a mile and a-quartor, gradually increasing the pace, to run homo tho last throe furlongs in 3!) l-ss. Air Port (Ilatwcll) and the Vaals—-Transaction filly (Splnloy), two-year-olds from E. Pope's stable, did steady work. They aro an impressive pair, possessing nico action.
