PRESENTATIONS

A presentation was made to Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Gardiner at a meeting of 1 lie Bayfield School Teachers' and Parents' Association last week, Mr. Gardiner having recently resigned his position as president of the association on liis appointment as manager of the Otahiilui branch of the Bank of New Zealand. The headmaster of the school, Mr. D. Mclnness, made reference to the excellent work performed by Mr. Gardiner, both as secretary and presi-. dent of the association, and to the active interest taken in its affairs by Mrs. Gardiner. On behalf of the association, the vice-president, Mr. G. S. Bnllen, presented the guests with a wall mirror. Mr. Bnllen was elected president, and Mr. .1. Tinnock vicepresident for the remainder of the year. The presentation of a purse of notes from the members and staff of the Boose Shipping Company, Limited, was made; to Mr. T. W. Lapwood, of Tuakau. engineer on the company's river steamer Rawhiti, at a farewell social on board the vessel at Mercer. Mr. Lapwood is retiring after 11J years' service with the company. About 'lO of the company's employees were present, and during the evening the secretary, Mr. .1. A. Anderson, made the presentation. On behalf of the police officers of the North Auckland district. Inspector J. Fox presented Constable J. H, Donnelly with a wristlet; watch at a gathering at Whangarei. Constable Donnelly, who lias been promoted to sergeant at Auckland, lias been in the district office nt Whangarei for over 13 years.^ Recognition of Mr. J. W. Anderson's services as chairman of the Matamatii County Council for 25 years was given at a social held in his honour in the Tiratt Hall. Mr. K. S. Cox presided. Messrs. N. L. Anderson, P. Dee, F. Rose, J. Price and M. E. Fitzgerald spoke congratulating Mr. Anderson on behalf of the local bodies,sports organisations and settlers. Mr. Anderson was presented with a barometer, a writing desk, a bookcaso and reading lamp, and a fountain pen. Tributes to the efficiency of Mr. T. Morgan, clerk of the Dnrguville Magistrate's Court for tho past 10 years, were paid prior to tho commene'ement of tho fortnightly Court proceedings. Mr. Morgan, who has been transferred to Whnkntane, is expeeted to leave about the end of the month. A presentation was made. Presentations of a tahle and a crystal rose bowl were made by the pupils and staff of the Hamilton High School > recently to Mr. Horace Snyers. a member of tho staff, on tho occasion of his wedding, which took place on Saturday.
