REFUSE COLLECTION BOROUGH PARKING AREA Comment on the absence of proper drainage in the town, staging that the present sanitary system wi"£,out of date, was-contained in a letter from a ratepayer who had been absent in Australia for nine years, at the Papakura Borough .Council meeting last evening. The ratepayer also raised the question of instituting a regular refuse collection. The Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, expressed the view that drainage was out of the question at the present time, as an efficient system would mean a heavj- increase in rates. With regard to arefuse collection, the Mayor said he was in favour of inaugurating a regular collection of, say, once a fortnight or once a month, and to placing os or 7s 6d on the rates to cover the cost. It was decided to reply to the ratepayer that drainage was not feasible at present, but the question of a regular refuse collection would be given consideration by the council. A recommendation from the Papakura traffic inspector. Mr. W. Wilson, that, with the ever-increasing motor traffic through the borough, the time was opportune to secure a site for a parking area, was discussed. Mr. D. JI Graham suggested the fire > brigade's section in Broadway as' a suitable site. Action was deferred until the date was. known when the section would become vacant.
