MAJESTIC THEATRE Edward G. "Warner Baxter and Lorotta xoung appear as the married couple whose liappiness is almost wrecked by the wife's sudden and, in the eyes of her husband, unreasonable desire to become a famous singer. Binnie Barnes, Cesar Romero and Eugene Pallette are prominent among the excellent supporting players. Shirley Temple reaches the height of her screen career in The Little Princess," the version of Frances Hodgson Burnett's immortal classic, which will 'bo tho next attraction at the theatre. This is the young actress' first full-length technicolour film, and she gives a very fine performance as the little daughter of a wealthy officer of the Grenadiers who leaves her at a boarding school while ho-goes off to fight in the Boer War. REGENT THEATRE Photographed in the glorious _ tints of modern technicolour. tho stirring drama "Heart of the North" is .the current attraction at the Regent Theatre. Set against the colourful background of the North-west, ■where the enforcing of law and order is carried out by the famous "mounties. the film has Dick Foran; Gloria Dickson and Allen Jenkins in the leading roles. ST. JAMES' THEATRE Metro - Goldwyn - Mayer's brilliant screen version of Robert E. Sherwood's : Pulitzer Prize play "Idiot's Delight i is at present attracting large audiences to St. James' Theatre. Leading roles i, are taken by two of the most popular ( players on the screen to-day, Clark Gable and Norma Shearer. Perhaps the most outstanding performance in the film, however, is that of Burgess Meredith. who plavs the part of a fanatical pacifist. Most of the speeches which mado the play famous as a scathing indictment of war fall to this role, and Meredith makes the most of his advantage. | . EMBASSY THEATRE 1 Based on the life of Johann Strauss, the famous waltz composer, Metro-Goldwvn-Maver's outstanding production "The Great Waltz" is Proving popular at the Embassy Theatre, the French actor Ferhand Gravet plays the role of Strauss, and invests it with all the glamour and romance that history /has woven around this figure. Several times winner of the Academy award, Luise Rainer cives another unforgettable performance as Poldi, Strauss' wife, while the Continental opera singer Miliza Korjus is heard in many of the composer's most famous successes. MAYFAIR THEATRE Samuel Goldwvn's outstanding scroen version of Emily Bronte's dramatic novel "Wuthering Heights" and an exciting racing drama, "King of the Turf," comprise the excellent programme to be shown at the Mayfair Theatre to-day. Merle Oberon and Laurence Olivier give magnificent characterisations in the first film as Cathy and Heathcliff, whose strange love story forms the basis of the plot. Adolphe Menjou and Roger Daniel head the cast in the second film. STAR CINEMA ' i Sonja Henie, the world-famous skating artist, has one of her best and brightest roles in "My Lucky Star, 1 ' the entertaining musical film which will head the new programmo at/the Star Cinema to-day. Richard Greene is the other principal, while the supporting cast includes Joan Davis, Buddy Ebsen and Arthur Treacher. The second attraction is tho sensational spy story "Secret Agent," in which Madeleine Carroll and Robert Young' give excellent leading portrayals. STRAND THEATRE A dramatic condemnation of the carelessness of the law is contained in" "Let Us Live," which willjagain head the programme at the Strand Theatre 1 to-day. The main parts are taken by Henry Fonda and Maureen O'SuUivan. the former appearing as a man who is unjustly condemned to death and the latter as his fiancee, whose task it is to convince the authorities of their mistake. Also to be screened is the comedy-drama "Missing Daughters." 'STATE THEATRE "Three Loves Has Nancy," a bright comedy of a small-town girl who comes to a great city, will again head the attractive programmo at the State Theatre to-night. The fine cast is headed by Janet Gnynor, while Robert Montgomery and Franchot Tone appear as two of the loves, their rivalry being the main source of humour. CRYSTAL PALACE AND RIALTO "Thanks for Everything." a bright comedy in which Tony Martin, Jack Haley and Binnie Barnes have the principal, roles, will again be the main attraction on the enjoyable programme at tho Crystal Palace and Bialto Theatres to-night. The other film is "Winner Take All." BRITANNIA THEATRE William Boyd and George Haves'have tho main roles in the exciting adventure film "In Old Mexico," which will be shown with the drama "Illegal Traffic" at the Britannia Theatre today. The second film has J. Carroll Naish in a leading part, GREY LYNN CINEMA The moring drama, "Craig's Wife," in which John Boles, Billie Burke and Rosalind Russell are the principals, will be shown with "North of Nome," n Jack Holt picture, on tho guest-night programme at the Grey Lynn Cinema to-night. TUDOR CINEMA "Suez," the story of the driving of the vital canal through tho wastes of the desert, will be the main film to be shown at the Tudor Cinema to-night. The main roles aro taken by Tyrone Power, Loretta Young and Annabella. BERKELEY, MISSION BAY The Ritz Brothers are at their best in tho hilarious racing film, "Straight, Place and Show," which will bo presented to-night nt tho Berkeley Theatre, Mission . Bay. Entertaining short features complete the programme. ASTOR THEATRE | Two exciting dramas, "Trouble in Morocco," with Jack Holt and Mae Clark in the principal parts, ■ and "Westbound Limited " comprise the programme to be screened at the Astor Theatre to-night. STATE THEATRE, DEVONPORT A thrilling story of adventure in the nir, "Crack Up," in which Peter Lorre is the principal, will be presented on the guest-night programme at. the State Theatre, Devonport, to-night. "Californian Mail" will also be shown. VICTORIA THEATRE The ever-popular actress Mne West has the leading part in "Go West, Young Man," which will bo the main attraction on the guest-night programme at the Victoria Theatre tonight.
