THIRTY YEARS OLD
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED MANY MEMBERS ATTEND DINNER [by TKLEGRAPH—OWN correspondent] WELLINGTON". Monday Thirty years ago to-day the Pioneer Club was founded at Wellington, and to mark the occasion a birthday dinner was held in the club's rooms. Nearly 140 members were present. The two main rooms, where the tables were set were gay with vases and bowls of greenery, berries and spring flowers, while on the tables a flat scheme of decoration was chosen, and carried out with low bowls of pink sweet peas, nemesias, primulas and berries. The floral decorations were carried out by members of the club's garden circle. Miss Amy Kane, president of the club, had place of honour at the official table, and among those present were: — Mrs. McLaren, representing the Canterbury Women's Club; Mrs. Gilkison, representing the Otago Women's Club; and Mrs. Blennerhassett, representing the Wanganui Women's Club. Miss Kane proposed the Royal toast. The toast to the club was proposed by Miss Kate Williams, a foundation member, and replied to by Miss Ngaire Cook. "Our Guests" was proposed by Mrs. G. A. King, and Mrs. W. A. Martin,'a member of the executive, replied. After dinner all present watched a most amusing parade of fashions covering the past 30 years, and in the dining room were displayed photographs or various members over a similar period.
At the. tea for foundation members to-morrow a feature will be the birthday cake made by Miss Daisy Isaacs. This will take rhe form of a manystoreyed building, with 30 miniature candles placed on the roof in the form of flagpoles. The building is complete witji Tittle window-boxes of pink and mauve candy flowers.
