CHINESE BOYCOTT
ONIONS FROM JAPAN SUPPORT IN WELLINGTON STATEMENT BY CONSULATE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday Chinese in Wellington support their countrymen in Auckland in strongly disapproving the importation of Japanese onions, and say they will not handle tho onions under any circumstances. The following statement was made from tho Chineso Consulate: "A boycott has been started voluntarily by the Chineso themselves, as all of them signed 'a people's pact' to pledge themselves not to buy or handlo the enemy's foods. As far as this Consul-ate-General is concerned, it cannot take any action which may tend to stifle tho patriotic ardour of its own nationals." ATTITUDE IN DUNEDIN DISPOSAL OF SHIPMENT [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] DUNEDIN, Monday Chineso in Dunedin will support the boycott of Japanese onions, but Dunedin's portion of the shipment is suro of disposal, in spite of it. A local wholesaler stated to-dav that tho Chinese had refused to touch the last consignment of Japanese onions two years ago, and were bound to adopt a similar attitude to this shipment. However, as 75 per cent of tho onions would bo sold in ordinary grocers' shops, ho anticipated that European purchasers would account for Duncdin's share.
