RESPECTING THE AGED
Sir, —I was recently a passenger on one of the many buses running between the City and Papatoetoo, and learnt to my sorrow that chivalry is an unknown" word among some of the opposite sex. I am only a Maori girl, but thank goodness the Maori as a race can still respect the older generation. The majority of the passengers were men, and the bus was full, but there was one seat to spare, which 1 took. A few minutes later an elderly lady boarded the bus, and yet not one of those nieu offered licr a seat, so I gave her mine. She, I know, was grateful. Now, if she had been young and beautiful they would have stumbled over one another to bo able to win a smile for the so-kind offer oi the seat. [ thank my grandparents for teaching tno to respect the aged. Some men should learn to pay homage to age before beauty. Mari.
