FIRST INDIAN M.P.
PORTRAIT FOR COMMONS [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] CALCUTTA, July 5 The Speaker has accepted a portrait of Dadabhai Naoroji, the first Indian M.P., which will be placed in the precincts of the House of Commons, London. His election for Central Finsbury (London) in 1892 created enthusiasm in this cfountry, and While he was a member he worked hard to interpret India to liis follow Parliamentarians. In the year after his election he became the only sitting M.P. who had presided over a Congress session in India. He had one of the most brilliant minds possessed by Indians of his day, and the portrait that the Speaker has accepted is as much a tribute to him as to his generation.
