GOLD DREDGE BURNED
VESSEL LATER SINKS SOUTHLAND OWNER'S LOSS [JJV TELEGRAPH —rJtKSS association] ]NVEnCARGILL, Sunday A gold dredge owned by Mr. J. A. S Aiken, of Gore, and situated in the Clifitton district, was destroyed by fire i-nrlv this morning. 'I lie dredge was not" insured, and Mr. Aiken was a heavy loser. It is understood tlmt the fireman removed the fire in the dredge on Saturday night in preparation tor tl'o draining out of the boiler. The dredge was burned to the Jevo! of tlio water before it sank. Ino was not lying in very deep water, but Mr. Aiken considers that it would cost £I2OOO to have it reconstructed.
