GIFT TO THE CITY

YACHT CHAMPIONSHIP PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORD ALBUM OF OVER 400 PICTURES As a permanent record of the holding of the world's 18ft. yacht championship at Auckland last February, the chairman of the Inter-Dominion Yacht Racing Committee, Mr. G. M. Dennes, is preparing an album of photographs of the teams and races which he intends to present to the city. The album measures about 4ft. by 3ft. and already contains over 300 photographs. Before it is completed another 130 or more will be added, and every one will be appropriately described. The album was opened for public inspection for the first time at the Heme Bay Junior Yacht Club's annual prize-giving on Saturday night. -Mr. Dennes, as commodore of the club, asked the chairman, of the ' Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. W. B. Darlow, to cut the ribbon enclosing the album. Mr. Dennes' said ho had the co-operation of yachting enthusiasts from all parts of the Dominion who had visited Auckland for the championship and taken photographs. He had received hundreds of pictures illustrating everv phase of the races and of the visit" of the Australian teams, and had also received considerable assistance from Auckland. When he cut the ribbon, Mr. Darlow expressed his admiration for the work done bv Mr. Dennes to preserve a record of the championship and for his generosity in intending to present tho album to the city. . Mr./ Dennes intends to retain the album until it is completed. It will be then handed over to the city to be lodged in a place of safe-keeping where it may bo inspected by the general public.
