TRICES AT SMITHFIELD LAMB MARKET VERY FIRM GOOD RATE OF CONSUMPTION The market for lamb at SmithfieM continues very firm with consumption good and prices generally firmer, according to the weekly report of the New Zealand Moat Producers Board. I here is fair trade in wethers and ewes with prices steady.

Frozen beef is also meeting with fair trade. In chilled beef business in hindquarters is steady, but fores are a shade easier owing to the warm weather.

The market for New Zealand porker pigs is firm, but trade is slow. New Zealand baconers are a shade firmer, owing to the higher price of Continental bacon.

Trade in boneless bobby real is also slow, but prices are firm owing to a shortage of supplies. In the ease of chilled beef, the rates represent the . approximate average prices realised for the week at per lb. To arrive at the equivalent ex ship values, one farthing pound should be deducted from the 'prices quoted above. Quotations given represent the average for the week, and are not selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of shipments on offer. STEADY MARKET FOR WETHERS EWES QUIET AND UNCHANGED The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last week: —Wethers: The market is steady. Ewes: The market is quiet and unchanged. Lambs: -There is a good demand at present prices. Quotations: —Wethers: Light, 4d to 4|d per lb; heavy. 3d to 3|d. Ewes, 2gd_to 3Jd per lb. Lambs: twos, 7Jd to 7Jcl per lb.; eights. 6|d to 6Jd; fours, 6id to 6j>d; seconds, 6Jd to 7jtd. .
