MARRED BY TRAGEDY
DUKE'S BIRTHDAY IN PARIS MAN FALLS FROM TOWER (Received Juno 25, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, Juno 21 Tragedy marred tho Duke of Windsor's 45th birthday rejoicings yesterday when a military attacho at tho Czech legation named Benes (no relation to Dr. Benes, former Czech President) fell IBGft. from tho first platform of tho Eiffel Tower and was killed. The fatality occurred while Bones was taking films of the Duke and Duchess at dinner, for which purpose he had perched on a rail, overbalanced and fell. In order to celebrate tho Duke's birthday and the 50th anniversary of the erection of tho Eiffel Tower, tho Duke and Duchess had dinner on one of the Tower's platforms. Otherwise ilicy limited tho celebration to telephone conversations with tho Royal Family. They were tho guests of tho German Embassy at Paris Inst evening. It is .understood that they will visit Spain in tho middle of July.
