PACER'S NEW STATUS POSITION OF FINE ART PHENOMENAL FINISHING RUN j ICEVUS UNABLE TO CARRY ON j Tlio world's winning race record for n mile and a-lialf of 3.12 1-5 made by Fine Art in the Winter Handicap at Addington on Saturday eclipses ; two records that wore established in j the Paparua Handicap at the Canter- | bury Park Trotting Club's Autumn Meeting oil February 11. Both races ■■ had a 3.22 limit. In the Paparua Handicap Colonel ; Grattan created a race winning record I of 3.13 1-5 off the limit, while Icevus, j on 12yds behind, made a world's race j record of 3.12 <l-5 in running third. j The second horse was Lightning Lady, j who was beaten by a length, and re- i corded 3.13 2-5. The 11 KHAiiU's correspondent telegraphed last" evening that Fine Art covered extra ground after being.badly placed in the 'early stages, and he showed phenomenal speed over the last quarter-milo. With half the distance covered Waitaki Power led from Cavan Chief, Toorak, Fremont, Nell Grattan, Sea Gift, Marceres, Waipahi, Icevus and Fine Art. Tho pace was very fast. Fine Art began a great run on the outside, but Icevus then shot to the front and led into the straight from Waitaki Power and Nell Grattan. Fine Art, on the outside, reached the lead at the distance and came home a comfortable winner from Nell Grattan, with Frisco Boy a close third. Icevus, Ferry Post, Marsceres, Horsepower and l<reinont were all handy. Uenuku's performances are referred to elsewhere on this page, but it is worthy of mention that on the grass truck at Ashburtpn Lindbergh ran second in the Durbar Handicap of 1933 in 3.13 1-5. Tho fastest mite and a-half ever recorded was trotted by the American champion, Greyhound, who went 3.2* at Indianapolis, Indiana, in September, 1937. In the same month, at Lexington, Kentucky, lie broke the longstanding world's record for a mile by registering 1.56.
