"NOT AN INCH"

FRANCE DETERMINED HURRIED DECLARATION DALADIER REAFFIRMS STAND NATIONAL SAFETY AT STAKE By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received May 5, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, May 4 Declaring: "In the present circumstances, I should not wait," the French Prime Minister, M. Daladier, last night communicated to the press the substance of the speech he will make to the Chamber of Deputies next Thursday. M. Daladier emphasised that France's position is the same as when he broadcast on March 29, namely, she will not surrender an inch of territory or a single right. The notion supported this policy, continued M. Daladier. Nevertheless, attempts were being made by false information and tendentious comments, to undermine the Government's and the nation's determination, thus creating a feeling ot' uncertainty ahroad about the clarity and honesty of French policy.

"The international situation has reached a point where the only real question is domination or collaboration in Europe," said the Prime Minister. "This means that France's safety is at stake. The French people know this, therefore their determination is unshakeable."

NAZIS EXPELLED NINE FROM BRITAIN SEQUEL TO INVESTIGATIONS GERMANY'S RETALIATION LONDON, May 4 The Home Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, in the House of Commons today announced that altogether nine' Nazis had been asked to leave Britain. The activities of these residents had been investigated by Scotland Yard, and they had been informed that they must return to Germany. None of the German journalists who were recently asked to leave were ordered out because of their journalistic activities. A message from Berlin says Miss Barbara Henman, secretary to Mr. H. C. Greene, chief correspondent of the Daily Telegraph in Berlin, has been expelled. Mr. Greene's expulsion was announced yesterday. POLICY OF JAPAN ALOOF FROM EUROPE " JOINING . NEITHER SIDE " (Received May 6. 12.15 a.m.) TOKIO, May 5 The Foreign Office spokesman said Japan's foreign policy, already enunciated, was unchanged. Japan was joining neither the totalitarian nor the democratic bloc. The Foreign Minister's interviews with the Italian and German Ambassadors were of no significance. The Prime Minister of Japan, Baron Hiranuma, has obtained Imperial sanction for a strictly limited military alliance with Italy and Germany against possible Russian aggression. GERMAN SUCCESS PACTS WITH BALTIC* STATES SHORT-CIRCUIT DEMOCRACIES (Received May 5, 7.10 p.m.) BERLIN, May 5

It is officially announced that nonaggression pacts have been concluded with Latvia and Estonia. Offers of similar pacts outside Scandinavia and the Baltic are not confirmed. It is reliably reported in Berlin that Germany has offered to extend a nonaggression pact to small European Powers, including Greece, in addition to Scandinavian and Baltic States. The object, it is believed, is to short-circuit the anti-aggression front of the democracies and prevent the latter from using the small Powers' ports in the event of war.

GERMANY AND POLAND ' . V NATURE OF PROPOSALS KNOWLEDGE IN BRITAIN (Received May 5, 6.5 p.m.) British Wireless LONDON, May 4 Mr. Chamberlain was asked to-day in the House of Commons if the terms of the proposals made by Germany to Poland relating to the Polish Corridor and Danzig, and Poland's intended reply to them, were known to Britain before the recent guarantee was offered to Poland. Mr. Chamberlain replied: "The Government was, of course, aware of the general subjects on which an exchange of views had been taking, place between the two Governments, ai\d of the attitude that each Government was disposed to adopt. An official account of the German proposals and the Polish counter-proposals has so far been public by one side only. I understand Colonel Beck, Polish Foreign Minister, is likely to make some further public pronouncement on these matters in the course of the speech he will make to-morro,w."
