MEAT AND WOOL PRICES
OPPOSITION TO GUARANTEE SOUTHLAND FARMERS' UNION [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATIONI INVERCARGILL, Friday . Resolutions opposing guaranteed prices for meat and wool and advocating the setting up of a Royal Commission to investigate the position of the primary industries were passed by the Southland provincial executive of the Farmers' Union to-day after a full day's discussion at a special meeting held in committee. The decisions were reached after consideration of six suggested methods for the relief of primary producers. The resolutions will appear as remits on the order paper of the provincial conference which will be held on June 1 and 2.
After the meeting, the president. Mr. A. R. Johnston, announced that the following resolutions had beeu passed:— "That this executive reaffirms its support to the Dominion executive in its request for the setting up of a Royal Commission to investigate the position of the primary industries, such a commission to include representatives of the primary producers with an independent chairman. "That this executive is opposed to the suggested guaranteed prices for meat and wool and that the executive recommends to the conference that the question ot free exchange be given fuli consideration."
