RAMS FOR LINCOLN

STUD ANIMALS SHIPPED

BACK TO HOME OF BREED STITCHED UP IN JACKETS [by telegraph —own correspondent] WELLINGTON, Friday Passengers for Lyttelton by the inter-island steamer to-night were two stud Lincoln rams which are being shipped to England on the Waiwera by Dalgety and Company, Limited. They were purchased by Mr. Clifford Nicholson, of Willington Manor, Lincolnshire, and were selected by Mr. E. St. C. Haydon, the company's stud stock manager, from Wairarapa and Marlborough flocks. They are considered fully able to maintain the prestige of New Zealand breeders. It is believed to be the first time that an English stud stock breeder has ordered stud rams from New Zealand to improve the quality of his flock. It is also striking that New Zealand stud sheep should be used to supply new blood to studs in the very shire in which the breed originated. The sheep were purchased respectively from Mr. L. R. Wilton, of Masterton, and Mr. Bishell, of Marlborough. They have been stitched up in tarpaulin jackets which are not to be removed until their destination is reached. On the voyage they will be in the care of the ship's butcher and will be fed on dry feed such as chaff and oilcake.

The Waiwera is expected to sail tomorrow for London, via Cape Horn, and will take 28 to 29 days on the voyage. She is one of the fastest ships on the run. ./
