MORBINSVILLE VALUES HEAVY ENTRY OF CATTLE FAT PIGS IN KEEN DEMAND [.FROM OTTO OWN CORRESPONDENT] MORRINSVTLLE, Friday There was an exceptionally heavy yarding of all classes of cattle, induing a full entry of second quality beef and boner cows, at the Morrinsville stock sale to-day. Competition throughout was keen and values for all classes were. firm at recent quotations. Good quality dairy heifers, which included an entry from the Kling Country, sold freely, but poorer sorts were hard to quit. Yearling heifers were also dull of sale, except for a small offering of good quality heifers. A full yarding of fat pigs and an extra heavy entry of store and weaner pigs came forward. Competition for baconcrs and prime porkers was very keen, with values fully up to recent quotations; Prices for the large entry of store and weaner • pigs showed an easing tendency on last w»ek. BERKSHIRE VALUES SOWS TO 40 GUINEAS AVERAGE PRICE OF £B/8/At the second annual unreserved sale of ihe Cheltenham Co-operative Dairy Company the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports a very successful sab. competition being very spirited from a large bench of buyers, which included representatives from the Waikato, Wairarapa, Wanganui. Hawke's Bay, Wellington and Tarauaki districts. The, three Berkshire sows, sired by the champion imported boar "Woodburn Landon," were of exceptional quality and attracted unusual attention, selling for 40 guineas. 20 guineas and 12%; guineas. Over 40 Berkshire - sows and boars were offered and sold at an average throughout of 8 guineas, which was very satisfactory considering that some of the offering were under the age of four months. The Tamworth section did not include any particularly outstanding animals as was the case in the Berkshire section, and the average price suffered accordingly. However, the average of 6 guineas over all was very satisfactory to the vendors. As usual the crossbred sows offered at the. end of the sale were very popular and in many cases exceeded the prices obtained for similar pigs in the pedigree section. PEDIGREE JERSEYS COMPETITION AT WALTON Under ideal conditions Mr. W. J. Chynoweth's sale of Totara Park pedigree Jerseys was held at Walton. A large gathering of buyers was present/ representing all parts of the Waikato. There was also a sprinkling of buyers from other districts as far away as Whangarei and Tanranga. Bidding was fairly good up to a point, but as a number of the cows were not young the prices realised were not very high. However, Mr. Chynoweth met the market- and the result was that practically the whole entry was disposed of. The auctioneer was Mr. S. W. Foote. who had been specially brought down from the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited's Auckland branch. The top price for bulls, 72%gns, was paid by Mr. Christiansen, of whangarei, for the bull Ivandale Blue Blood. Mr. S. J. Robinson, of Matamata, purchased the highest-priced cow, Restholme Froth, for whicn his bid was 32 1 / 4gns. Other outstanding sales were to Mr. E. Rowlandson Tauranga, one qow, 30gns; Mr. D. Dixon, Walton, two at 27gns and 24gns; Mr. le Garth, of "Whangarei, one at -21gns; Mr. W. Mears, of Walton, one at 25gns. As already mentioned, the majority of the cows were somewhat on the aged side and this accounts for the fact that the average price for cows was only 17gns. Heifers sold fairly well Mr. S. Bovili, of Matangi, paid the top price 17gns. The whole offering of 16 in-calf heifers was disposed of, the average price being 13gns.
