INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Woodhill. —The president, Miss B. Phillips, presided at the monthly meeting, and Mrs. S. Phillips was appointed delegate to the forthcoming conference at Auckland. Arrangements were made for a competition table to bo shown at the conference, and Mrs. A. Hoist and Miss B. Phillips were chosen as stewards. Competition results were:-—Vaso of flowers: Miss B. Phillips and Miss J. Phillips, 1; Mrs. A. Hoist and Mrs. F. Hoist, 2. Thritt competition: Miss J. Phillips, 1; Mrs. F. Hoist, 2. Mrs. A. Hoist was appointed press correspondent. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. E. G. Phillips and Miss J. Phillips. Otaua. —Visitors from Aka Aka were present at the monthly meeting, at which the president, Mrs. Shukor, presided. Mrs. Hyland presented Mrs. Shuker with a posy, and the judges of the competitions, Mrs. McConnell and Mrs. Sinclair, also received flowers. Miss Una Hall sang, and Mrs. Grimmond gave an account of a recent holiday in Australia. Competition results wero; —Vase of flowers: Mrs. Shuker, 1; Mrs. Goodwright, 2; Mrs. Sherrard, 3. Best blooms: Mrs. Guthrie and Mrs. Holmes, 1; Mrs. Grimmond. 2. Tho hostesses were Mrs. Deed, Mrs. West, Mrs. Hyland, Miss I. Thompson. Miss Johnson and Miss Dickey. Waitakaruru—There was a large attendance of members at tho monthly meeting of the institute, at which Mrs. C. Wallace presided. Arrangement* were made for a garden party to be held in aid of the hall restoration fund and delegates for the bi-annual conference at Auckland wero appointed. Brooches were presented to Mrs. Council and Mrs. Simpson. Mr. L. Jcllie gave a talk on the work of the St. John Ambulance, and Mrs. Wallace described England at the time of the crisis. Points prizes were presented by the gardening circle as follows:—Best bloom: Mrs. Dick, 1; Mrs. Pacey, 2; Mrs. Douglas, 3. Vase of berries and leaves: Mrs. A. Coxhead, 1; Mrs. Douglas, 2; Mrs. Herotton, 3. The hostesses wero Mrs. Connell and Miss Betty Douglas. Otorohanga—A lecture on first-aid in the Jiome was given by Mr. Johnston at the monthly meeting of the institute, at which the vice-president presided. Ho also demonstrated various types of bandaging. Mrs. W. Dhnond won tho monthly competition. Tho hostesses for afternoon tea were Mrs. Burton, Mrs. Blaikie and Mrs. Church. Manawaru.—Mrs. Waugh presided at tho monthly meeting of the institute, and later explained the organisation and methods of the New Zealand institutes to the new members. Mrs. Davidson offered to take charge of the monthly sales tables. Competition results were: —Working apron: Mrs. Beavis, 1: Mrs. Tyrie, 2; Mrs. Waugh, 3. Jar or preserved peaches: Mrs. A. Neeve, 1; Miss Trehilco, 2; Mrs. Parker and Mrs. Huston, 3. Best bloom: Mrs. J. Waugh,-1; Mrs. A. Neeve, 2; Mrs. Parker, 3. Afternoon tea was served by tho hostesses, Mrs. K. Tyrie and Miss T. Trebilco.
