IRISH TERRORISM TEN EXPLOSIONS FOUR SHOPS DAMAGED TEAR GAS IN THEATRE By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received May <l, 5.5 p.in.) LONDON, May 4 Four bomb explosions occurred in Coventry between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.. They blew out shop fronts and caused other damage. Earlier in the morning there were two similar explosions in London, one in Holborn and the other in Euston Road. All are attributed to members of the Irish Republican Army. Tear gas bombs exploded in two cinemas at Liverpool and 15 people were sent to hospital. An Independent Cable Service message says that a slight explosion in a lodging-house in Manchester led to the discovery of four suitcases full of explosives and a number of balloon acid bombs similar to those used by the Irish Republican Army. Three men who had taken a room a few days ago fled. A series of bomb explosions severely damaged a house in the suburb of Kednall, Birmingham, and blew out windows of neighbouring houses. The police later arrested a man with head injuries and torn clothing, and also seized a quantity of explosives. Speaking in the Eire Senate Mr. Desmond Fitzgerald, an ex-Minister of Defence, referring to the bomb outrages in England, said it was clearly the duty of the Government to put down any organisation plotting violence against another country. The Minister of Justice, Mr. Patrick J. Ruttledge, said the Government was taking the only step possible by imposing the death penalty for treason. The Senate rejected an amendment providing penal servitude as an alternative to death.
