SOCIAL INJUSTICE!
Sir, —I have just finished perusing the pamphlet sent out by the Government, to farmers as information, and guidance to filling in returns for social security tax; and what a source of information it is!
On page six of the pamphlet the farmer is told what to deduct in tax from his employee each week, in lieu of board and lodging, for single men. This is £1 per week and subject to Is social security tax. It used to be 17.s 6d per week, but cost of living has gone up. Now on page 10 is set out the amount the farmer is allowed to deduct for board and lodging of an employee. This is what the employee has already been charged £\ for; but is the farmer allowed to deduct £1 for this same board and lodging? Oh no, all tho farmer is allowed to deduct is 12s 6d per week. This used to be 15s before the cost of living went up. Now it is reduced to 12s 6d!
Can anyone place confidence and faith in the justice of a Government that does that sort of thing? This surely is a matter for the Farmers' Union to take up. Fed-up Farmer.
