DAILY GOODS SERVICE
AUCKLAND TO MORRINSVILLE APPLICATION FOR LICENCE r. [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Thursday An application for the extension of the licence to provide for a daily goods service between Auckland and Morrinsville was made by the Northern Transport Company, Limited (Mr. L. P. Leary), to Mr. K. J. Phelan, No. 1 Licensing Authority, at Hamilton today. The Application was opposed by tho T?ailwa\ Department and the South Auckland Council of Carriers. Mr. Leary said that the company had originally been granted a daily licence, but this had been replaced by a licence providing for return journeys three days a week. The Minister of Transport had said there was no evidence of the necessity or desirability for the service, as there was a service given by the. Railway Department. Mr. Learv contended that the company was affording the people of Morrinsville a service which it was not possible for the railways to give. Decision was reserved pending the submission of evidence by the interested parties.
