MAN SEVERELY BUKNED FALL TO CONCRETE PAVING WIFE'S PRESENCE OF MIND [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] HASTINGS, Tuesday Severe burns, shock and head injuries were suffered by Mr. R. McCartney, married, of Taradalo, when he came in contact with high-power electric lines while painting his house to-day. It is believed that his paintbrush struck the line.

Mrs. McCartney heard loud screams, and rushed outside to find her husband hanging from the "wires by his hands and unable to free himself. With great presence of mind, she returned to the house and turned off the electric supply at the meter. This reduced the charge and enabled Mr. McCartney to release his grip, but he fell about 12ft. and struck his head on the concrete paving below. A* doctor was summoned and Mr. McCartney was taken to the Napier Hospital, where his condition is reported to be serious.
