THE SCENIC DRIVE
COMPLETION OF PAYING VIEW FROM HILL SUMMIT ONE-WAY ACCESS ROAD Paving of the Waitakere scenic: drive over its full length and also along the connecting old West Coast road to Swanson has been finished and most of the workers who were engaged have been absorbed in other works. The remainder are employed in widening a few portions, while it is proposed that they should also construct bordering footways on a section of the drive. The drive passes a short distance below the summit of Pukematekeo Hill, from which a magnificent view is obtained of both coasts. On the est Coast side the view extends from the Manukau Harbour to Kaipara. On the western side the view includes the Kauri Park forest, the waterworks dam and also the cascading outflow. Access to the summit is gained by a short stretch of one-way road, which it is intended to continue round the summit, rejoining the drive. The portion giving access to the summit is metalled, but it is pointed out that it would be inadvisable to take a car up on any day when there wag likely to be much traffic, for the return trip might be difficult.
