FLYING IN WAIKATO
POPULARITY INCREASES PILOTS' RAPID TRAINING - - [I'ROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Tuesday With only two aeroplanes in commission at the present time, a new record, for flying fime for the Wa;ikato airport at Rukuhia was established last week, ,the machines flying 45 hours 35 minutiep. The previous record of 45 hours 15 minutes was established in January of this year. A greater interest in flying is being taken in the district and a greater amount of passenger flying is being carried out. Two trainees at the aerodrome underwent their first solo flights during last week, while tliree pilots obtained their A licences. One of the pilots who made his first solo flight during the week was Mr. S. D. Steel, of Te Puke, who also gained his A certificate on Saturday. He commenced his training on March 6 and went solo on March 13. He attended the aerodrome on 12 dajs only.
