CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL

Sir, —I feel sure that "Hoping" has the support of 99 per cent of the citizens of greater Auckland and of the North in his suggestion of a harbour bridge as a Centennial memorial. It will be remembered that the late Mr, A. J. Entrican when deputy-mayor ad-' voeated the building of the bridge as the Centennial memorial. Of late years huge sums have been spent on tourist roads, while the "big hole" in what should he the chief thoroughfare of the city of Greater Auckland as a utility thoroughfare for the whole community remains unbridged. Referring to Mr. Seinple's recent remarks about "strategic roads" from a military aspect, the value of a harbour bridge, in time of urgency, for expeditious movement of men and equipment, and evacuation of civilians in fog. storm or sunshine, cannot be too highly assessed. Greater Aucklandee.
