MISSING TEN MONTHS
BOY FROM ARDMORE FRUITLESS POLICE SEARCH Notwithstanding exhaustive inquiries by the police throughout the Auckland district, there is no trace of Charles John Raymond Birss, aged uine and a-half years, who disappeared from his home at Clevedon Road, Ardmore, near Papakura, early on the morning of April 3, 1938. For several days after he was reported missing searches were made of the surrounding country, but nobody saw or heard of him.
The boy lived with Mrs. J. Handy. Shortly before seven o'clock in the morning she went to his room to wake him, but he was not there. His clothes had gone, and with them a pillowcase. She reported the matter to the police. Since then the authorities have visited every school in the district. The lad's description is as follows: Height, 4ft. 4in., freckled face, red hair, blue eyes. He probably wore navy blue shorts, a khaki shirt, and was without shoes or boots. Anyone who may be able to throw light upon his possible whereabouts is asked to communicate with the nearest police station.
