RAILWAY COMPETITION CONFERENCE SUGGESTED l BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI. Friday _ The Whangarei Harbour Board is considering the calling of a conference of various harbour boards whose revenue is affected by the operations of the Railway Department. At a meeting o the board to-day the report on the trade of the port showed a decline m imports compared with the same mont last year. A board member, Mr. R. Hsuggested that there should be a special investigation into the circumstances. " The Railway Department has taken over the road goods service between Auckland and Whangarei knowing that any loss would he paid for by t e people," said Mr. P. Gardner. "If the board were to strike a rate to co y er any loss then we would be penalising our own people who have already been taxed to cover the Railway Department's losses."
