FORBURY PARK MEETING RUNNING OF PARISIENNE STATEMENT BY MR. F. J. BEER Ley telegraph—own correspondent] DUNEDIN, Friday A special. report on the running of Parisienne at the summer meeting of the Forbury Park Trotting Club by the chief stipendiary steward, Mr. F. J. Beer, was submitted to a meeting of the stewards of the club.
The report read as follows:—" Durig the running of the Dunedin Trotting Cup on the first day Parisienne, driven by 11. B. Berry, stopped badly at the end of a mile and was pulled up. On returning to the birdcage Berry f stated, in answer to my inquiry, that f the mare had simply collapsed in his f hands; that by the way she stopped he \ thought she must have broken a bloodvessel, but on examining her he could | see nothing to indicate the cause of | the trouble. The mare certainly seemed ■'* distressed when she returned to the birdcage. % " Later in the day 1 again ques-1 tioned Berry, but, as tlie mare had | been removed to stables off the course, 1 he could tell me nothing further. That evening I again endeavoured to get in g touch with iierry, but could not do so. | " The following morning I again tele- I phoned him, and Mr. D. R. Iteyell, J husband of the owner of the horse, J answered the telephone. He said they ij were going out to inspect the mare * and he would telephone me again at 2 mid-day. Mr. Revell then informed me { that Parisienne seemed brighter after | treatment, but the indications were 4 she had suffered from kidney trouble. ? They were to give the mare a work- | out the following morning, Saturday, | and if she were not right she would | not be a starter that day. }
" On my arrival at the course on | Saturday Mr. He veil informed me that * Lhey had worked the mare on a small f track that morning and that she had gono satisfactorily. She started the | once and won, with Lucky Jack, with | whom she was bracketed, second. It ! was a fast-run race, with War Buoy i making the pace, and Parisienne registered 4.15 4-5. There was a demon-1 stration against the winner.' - "On the first day the bracket went, out favourite, carrying 1637 tickets. On the second day Morello was favourite with 1937 tickets, while the Parisierme-Lucky Jack bracket was third favourite with 1397 tickets. * • " An examination of the scrip book in the totalizator disclosed that the'in- j vestment from Berry's . stable oil the : first day was four times larger than j on the second, and that Mrs. Hevell's investments were exactly half the | second day of what -they wore on the .first day. From the facts before us, i there was no evidence to support an | objection or complaint, and a meeting a of the judicial committee was there- a fore deemed unnecessary."
