Bulbs to Plant Now
Various kinds of autumn-flowering bulbs can be planted now and will add both to the interest and attractiveness of the garden. Foremost among these are the Meadow Saffrons, or Colchicums, which produce large crocus-liko flowers in March and April. The corms should be planted with their tops about three inches deep. These look very attractive when planted in groups in rough grassland, or in clusters at the front or the shrub border. Some of the best varieties are Colchicum autumnale and album plenum; C. speciosum Ruby Queen, Autumn Queen, gigantium and Lilac Wonder.
